Video Game for Moral Education and STEAM Development
MoralSteam
is the new Strategic Partnership approved by Planet Alive, in which ELA is a partner.
Its aim is to increase students’ interest in topics related to the STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), while also strengthening their Moral Education.
The main expected outcome of the project’s activities and dissemination—besides a high level of participation and positive feedback on the video game and methodological materials from the students and teachers involved,
is to boost students’ interest and performance in subjects such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, while at the same time educating them in the values and virtues needed for successful education, professional careers, and social engagement.

Action: Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships for school education
Duration: 2020-11-01 – 2022-10-3

Themes addressed
Innovative practices in a digital era, moral education, development of STEAM.

Partners of the project
Association Planet Alive (Lithuania); Tag of Joy JSC (Lithuania); ASPECT – Management And Intercultural Relations (Bulgarian); Erasmus Learning Academy (Italy)
Project Outcomes
To achieve the main objective of the project, the partnership will create and develop two Intellectual Outputs specifically designed for a target group of students aged 10 to 14, with the aim of increasing their interest in STEAM subjects and their Moral Education.
Decision-making video game
It is a video game through which students will be guided to solve “moral” dilemmas related to STEAM topics. The game is designed to present facts and questions that require students to make choices in order to collect strength-points. By placing players in the role of decision-makers, the video game presents them with challenging scenarios, allowing them to experience various ways of learning and thinking.

Encyclopaedia of values
An innovative and versatile handbook that will consist of a list of values with accompanying descriptions, tailored for a proper understanding by students. It will also include a collection of teaching materials designed to support teachers in planning their lessons based on the principles of spiral and concentric learning.
The available materials will draw on research conducted in the three participating countries and will incorporate insights from students, teachers, and researchers — all grounded in a shared European approach.

What’s going on in the project?

Moralsteam Multiplier Event
On October 24, 2022, the MORALSTEAM Conference was held, where local and international participants had the opportunity to discover the project’s results — including the video game, the Encyclopedia of Values, and research findings — as well as explore ways to integrate them into their educational practices.
The event sparked fruitful discussions on the use of games in education and the importance of promoting moral education and virtues within the national curriculum.

Final Research Results
The testing phase of the game in the partner countries involved over 600 children aged between 10 and 14 years. They played the game and provided valuable feedback to the project partners. The research allowed the partners to assess the potential effectiveness, usability, and user satisfaction with the game. The results were highly positive, and it is very likely that the game will be used and reused by teachers for teaching moral issues and instilling value sets in the classroom.

The video game is out!
The video game for children aged 10 to 14 has been released and is available in 4 languages (EN, BG, IT, LT). The game provides a gamified learning experience that covers topics such as values education, moral education, and knowledge in the STEAM field. It is a game where children can face various challenges and moral dilemmas, all related to STEAM topics such as healthy food, constellations, and much more!

Discover our Encyclopedia of Value
Our Encyclopedia of Value is now available and ready to be used! It contains a list of values with their descriptions, written in language tailored for students aged 10 to 14, providing useful material for lesson planning. The manual is innovative, versatile, and adaptable to STEAM subjects, moral education, and other topics, as well as to non-formal contexts.

2nd Transnational Project Meeting
The second meeting of the Moralsteam project took place on November 3rd.
The objective of this meeting was to present and discuss the first version of the video game. The game mechanics are simple and effective, featuring cartoon-like characters. The storyline of the game changes based on the player’s choices, which are guided by the theory of spiral dynamics.
This means that the choices are designed to correspond a wide range of virtues with the players’ decisions.

The First Steps of Moralsteam
The first Transnational Meeting of the project took place on Zoom on December 15, 2020. The partners discussed the objective of the project’s activities, which is to increase students’ interest in STEAM subjects while simultaneously educating them on universal values. The first major activity of the project will be the organization of a school survey to investigate topics that are of interest to students, based on which the content of the video game will be adapted.
