Be Smart Be Tolerant
Best
is a KA2 Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project coordinated by ELA
The goal of the BEST project is to develop a training kit for young people and youth workers to guide them in identifying fake news, thus putting an end to disinformation across all types of media.
Since fake news has the power to trigger political changes, influence people’s opinions, and create confusion and social unrest, it is essential that young people learn how to identify and combat this phenomenon.
In fact, young people are the most exposed to this type of disinformation due to their high consumption of news and social media. This project will help young people become active citizens and provide them with the tools to respond to the challenges posed by the fake news phenomenon that we face every day.

Project Outcomes
In order to achieve the main objective of the project, the partnership will create and develop three resources specifically designed for youth workers and young people aged between 15 and 25.
A course divided into three workshops
The course will be held both in-person and online, will be in English and in the languages of the partner countries, and will include theoretical knowledge on the topic of fake news, methodological approaches, and multimedia resources to stop the spread of misinformation.

The BEST Guide
The guide consists of three chapters developed by Dorea, SEP, and ELA and will be presented during the two learning activities in Cyprus and Bologna. These activities will serve as opportunities to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and develop activities to train youth workers on the main themes of the project.
4 Animated Videos on Fake News
The animated videos will be created by IFET. Each video will last approximately 2 minutes and will cover the topics discussed in the first two chapters of the BEST guide. Each video will focus on the active citizenship component related to the propagation and recognition of fake news and will be subtitled in English and the languages of the partner countries.

We’ve worked with some of the best companies.
What’s going on in the project?

TPM in Valencia
This week, our Spanish partners from CREJOB hosted the latest transnational meeting of the BEST (Be Smart, Be Tolerant!) project, which took place in Valencia on April 29th.
This TPM gave us the opportunity to meet again with our project partners SEP (Romania), DOREA (Cyprus), and of course, CREJOB.
We exchanged ideas about the recently implemented workshops for both youth workers and young people, sharing experiences and advice on how to follow up with these activities.
We also laid the groundwork for the awareness campaign and the dissemination phase, discussing the next steps to take in the project.

BEST Workshop
We are happy to announce that on March 27th, we concluded a series of workshops as part of the BEST (Be Smart, Be Tolerant) project, where we introduced the BEST toolkit both online and at the ELA office to young people.
These workshops were a great opportunity for the youth to expand their knowledge on topics such as fake news, propaganda, disinformation, and the use of gamification and game-based learning, while also strengthening their critical thinking skills. The young participants had the chance to personally test the activities we developed for the BEST guide.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience to promote the project and see the benefits and applications of the BEST toolkit!

LTTA in Bologna
From October 30th to November 3rd, we hosted the second Training Activity of the BEST project: Be Smart! Be Tolerant! at ELA. During this week, our colleague Isabel introduced the third chapter of the BEST guide, which trains youth workers to guide young minds in recognizing and stopping the spread of fake news in an engaging way! The secret? Gamification and game-based learning!
Isabel shared and applied non-formal educational methods to make learning fun, engaging, interesting, and impactful. Not bad, right? We are excited to be part of the BEST project and start making our contribution by becoming aware citizens.

Learning Activity in Limassol
The first learning activity took place in Limassol (Cyprus) from July 3rd to 7th, hosted by Dorea Educational Institute. Three people from each partner organization participated in this activity, which provided the opportunity to dive deeper into the main themes of the project, such as the different types of media biases and the main weapons of disinformation. Partners Dorea and SEP presented the first two chapters of the BEST guide, while at the end of the week, IFET presented their concept for the animated videos, and a brainstorming session was held to come up with new ideas for the development of the project.
It was a fantastic week, and we can’t wait to take the next steps toward becoming informed citizens!

First TPM in Târgu Jiu
The first Transnational Project Meeting took place in Târgu Jiu (Romania) on April 4th, 2023, and it was a great opportunity to meet the partners, get an overview of the project, and discuss the next steps towards developing the objectives of this partnership.
We are excited to be part of the development of the BEST project objectives and contribute to stopping the spread of fake news and disinformation!
