AI for Inclusion: Empowering Teachers to Support Neurodivergent and ASD Students through AI-enhanced Personalized Learning Experiences
AI-nclusion
is a KA2 Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project coordinated by ELA.
The AInclusion project responds to the growing need for more inclusive education systems across Europe, particularly for neurodivergent students, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). With around 15 million children identified as having Special Educational Needs (SEN) and significantly higher early school leaving rates among neurodivergent learners (31.5% compared to 12.3%), there is a clear need for more effective and tailored support.
AInclusion integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) into educational settings to promote personalized, accessible, and equitable learning, in line with key European priorities such as the European Pillar of Social Rights. By raising awareness, strengthening teachers’ skills, promoting the exchange of best practices, and improving the accessibility of educational materials through AI, the project aims to create a more inclusive and innovative learning environment where neurodivergent students can thrive academically and socially.

Project Outcomes
The main aim of AInclusion is to promote inclusive education for students with neurodivergence and ASD through the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence, but more specific:

Awareness campaign to raise awareness on neurodiversity and ASD
The Awareness Campaign includes online social media posts, events, face-to face meetings with local stakeholders and more, exposesing educators and students to accurate information about neurodiversity and ASD, challenging stereotypes and fostering a more inclusive school environment. It also encourages school teachers to question their teaching approach to neurodivergent and ASD students. By actively engaging teachers in the campaign, we prompt critical reflection among educators, leading to the adoption of more inclusive teaching methods that better meet the needs of neurodivergent and ASD students.
Cycle of 5 open webinars on neurodiversity and ASD
By organizing webinars focused on neurodiversity and ASD, educators critically reflect on their teaching approaches and adapt them to meet the needs of neurodivergent students. Also, by facilitating discussion during the webinars, educators are encouraged to actively fostering a culture of improvement in addressing the needs of neurodivergent students. Lastly, the webinars ensure efficiency in enhancing teachers’ competencies and methodologies for working with neurodivergent students. The webinars tackle 5 main topics: Addressing Neurodiversity and autism spectrum; Inclusive language and behaviours in the school environment; The Italian experience with Inclusive Education; Personalized learning strategies for neurodivergent students; Leveraging the use of technology and AI for personalized learning.

AI-nclusion Tank platform
The creation of the AInclusion Tank aims to provide educators with a comprehensive platform where they can access resources, exchange practices, and integrate AI technologies into their teaching methods. Through the creation, promotion, and integration of AI topics on the Tank, educators are empowered to enhance their methodologies for working with neurodivergent students, ultimately promoting a more inclusive and innovative learning environment.
Training course on “Inclusive teaching practices: enhancing support for students with neurodivergence and autis
A 25-hour training course “Inclusive teaching practices: enhancing support for students with neurodivergence and ASD” consisting of 5 modules: M1 Understanding neurodiversity and Autism Spectrum Disorders; M2 Inclusive teaching strategies and classroom management techniques; M3 Leveraging assistive technology for neurodiverse learners; M4 Creating personalized learning paths and individualized education plans; M5 Supporting social and emotional well-being in neurodivergent students. This activity also includes an online piloting in order to collect feedback from teachers.

Training course on “Making the most of AI for personalized learning experiences for students with neurodivergence and ASD
A 25-hour training course “Making the most of AI for personalized learning experiences for students with neurodivergence
and ASD” consisting of 5 modules: M1 Introduction to AI in education and personalized learning; M2 Data-driven instruction and adaptive learning platforms; M3 Implementing AI-powered assessment and feedback systems; M4 Designing customized learning experiences for neurodiverse learners; M5 Ethical considerations and responsible use of AI in education. Based on AI advancement, the Modules might undergo refinement prior to the course development. The course will be tested during a Learning Teacher Training Activity in Tenerife in order to collect feedback from teachers and educators from partner countries.
Mentorship Program and Local Hackathon
The Mentorship Program and Local Hackathons are organized to to spread knowledge among partners, schools, teachers and local stakeholders of AI for personalized learning and for promoting collaboration in the development of needs-based inclusive AI activities. Detailed guidelines and resources will support the mentorship activities, ensuring that
mentors and mentees have clear expectations and objectives.

AI-based Toolkit activities
A comprehensive Toolkit of AI-based activities prototyped during the AI Hackathon, providing accessible materials and inspiration for implementing AI in personalized learning. The toolkit will include lesson plans, activity guides, tips for adaptation and personalization, assessment tools and case studies. User-friendly formats such as guides, templates, and instructional videos will make the toolkit more accessible to teachers.
Interactive Inclusive Guidelines and Ethical AI tool Guidelines
The guidelines will take the form of video tutorials and will be supplemented with real-life examples, case studies, and practical tips from local testing experiences to illustrate key concepts and strategies in action. The Guidelines will be translated into 6 languages (EN, IT, ES, RS, PT, PL),

The first TPM in Bologna
From 12 to 14 January 2026, the first Transnational Project Meeting (TPM1) of the AI for Inclusion project took place in Bologna, Italy, hosted by Erasmus Learning Academy. Partners from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Romania, and Serbia gathered to officially launch the project and align on objectives, roles, and implementation strategies. The meeting marked an important milestone in strengthening international cooperation around inclusive education, with a shared focus on empowering teachers to support neurodivergent and ASD students through AI-enhanced personalized learning experiences.
Over three days, participants engaged in structured sessions and interactive activities covering project management, financial procedures, dissemination plans, and upcoming work packages. Particular attention was given to awareness-raising on neurodiversity, the use of artificial intelligence in inclusive education, and the planning of campaigns, webinars, and digital resources. TPM1 successfully laid the foundation for the project’s next phases, fostering a strong sense of collaboration, shared purpose, and commitment to creating practical, impactful tools for inclusive education across Europe.
